134 Days Left

pie

I've been thinking about this topic for a while, but I could never figure out how to work it in to the topics.  Today seemed like a good day.

Product DetailsSometimes I am a little slow.  I mean, I am a pretty smart person.  Intellectually, I understand why concepts make sense.  For example, I read the book No Need for Speed by John "The Penguin" Bingham.  I've given some gems from him before.  Anyway....he and Jeff Galloway both talk about food as fuel for a running body.  I get that.  Running requires energy.  Food provides that energy.  Food doesn't need to be scrumptious on your tongue, it needs to be efficient to your muscle sand it needs to convert efficiently to energy.  Got it.

In reality, I like yummy food.  I don't see food as a comfort or as my friend, I see it as something that I can enjoy with my family.  A delicious dressing makes a salad.  A marinade makes a piece of meat that much more tasty.  The right spices can take a meal from just okay to fantastic.  Don't even get me started on desserts.  So, my brain gets it, but my taste buds haven't caught up.

Well, today I did my run in the afternoon.  It was about an hour after lunch.  Lunch today was less than stellar.    We had pizza and birthday cake.  (Side note....we do not usually have pizza for lunch.  Second child decided that his taggie blanket's birthday party was today.  He planned a party.  He invited his friends at school.  I indulged his childhood imagination and let him have pizza and a little 6" cake for everyone to share.  We ate barely 1/4 of the cake among the 4 of us.)

My run today was work.  I was ploddy and slow.  I got a stitch in my side that I couldn't get rid of.  I was a little concerned that the white cake with blue icing was going to make a comeback.  Lunch was pretty crappy and the run was pretty crappy.  Coincidence???

I learned today that I need to make better choices on running day, especially when I run later in the day.  Hopefully, those choices will carry over to non running days.  Usually, when I run in the mornings, I make better choices for the rest of the day.  I want fruit instead of cake.  I want water instead of tea.  I want good protein instead of junk.

Food is fuel.  I get it.  Now to make the thoughts match the actions.

Today's stats:
3.52 miles in 48 minutes (13.6 minute miles)
